1 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HD & HD PLUS

THE HD & HD PLUS BOTH HAVE IDENTICAL FEATURES SUCH AS 22 WHEELS TEMP PRESSURE ETC, EITHER SENSORS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE OTHERS MONITOR ,  HD PLUS SENSORS CAN HANDLE 220PSI, HD UP TO 140PSI, HD HAS ECOSENSORS WHERE SENSOR BATTERIES CAN BE REPLACED, HD PLUS CANT BUT ARE RATED FOR 5 YEARS USE AND CAN HANDLE TOTAL SUBMERSION AND -40C TEMPS, THE HD SENSORS CAN HANDLE NORMAL WET WEATHER CONDITIONS

2 RESETTING THE MONITOR

TO RESET THE MONITOR, SWITCH THE MONITOR OFF (SEE 26). WE NOW KNOW WHERE WE ARE AT WITH THE POWER OFF.   (1) PRESS THE MIDDLE BUTTON TO START THE MONITOR. (2) HOLD DOWN THE 2 OUTSIDE BUTTONS TOGETHER UNTIL IT BEEPS. (3) THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WILL FLASH AND THE LIGHT WILL BE EITHER RED OR GREEN. (4) IF GREEN HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE BUTTON UNTIL IT BEEPS AND THE LIGHT TURNS TO RED.  (5) IF THE LIGHT IS ALREADY RED PRESS THE RIGHT BUTTON TO GO TO THE NEXT WHEEL (RIGHT FRONT). (6) WE ARE LOOKING TO TURN ANY GREEN LIGHTS TO RED (DELETE THE SENSOR). (7)  PRESS THE RIGHT BUTTON AND PASS BY EVERY WHEEL TURNING ANY GREEN LIGHTS TO RED BY PRESSING THE MIDDLE BUTTON UNTIL IT BEEPS. (8) ONCE  EVERY WHEEL ON THE MONITOR DISPLAY SHOWS A RED LIGHT, IT MEANS WE HAVE DELETED ALL SENSORS FROM THE MONITOR.  (9) THEN HOLD DOWN THE 2 OUTSIDE BUTTONS  TOGETHER UNTIL IT BEEPS  TO GET OUT OF THE ALIGNMENT MODE. (10) THE MONITOR IS NOW BASICALLY AS YOU PURCHASED IT WITH NO SENSORS REGISTERED.

3 DO I NEED A SIGNAL BOOSTER

 THE TRANSMITTING RANGE FOR OUR SENSORS 20-30 FEET, IS STATED FOR THE WORST CONDITIONS, UNLIKE OTHER MANUFACTURERS THAT STATE EXTRA LONG DISTANCES THAT ARE LINE OF SIGHT & DO NOT TAKE IN TO CONSIDERATION INNER DUAL WHEELS OVERHANGING BODY WORK, METAL TINTED WINDOWS ETC. WHICH CAN BLOCK SIGNALS STRENGTH. WE PRESENTLY OFFER A HARD WIRED OR BATTERY POWERED BOOSTER. IF YOU PURCHASE A BOOSTER AND FIND YOU DO NOT NEED IT, YOU CAN RETURN THE UNUSED BOOSTER FOR A COMPLETE REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE WITHIN 30 DAYS

4 DOES THIS SYSTEM MEASURE TEMPERATURE AS WELL AS PRESSURE

YES UNLIKE OTHER SYSTEMS THAT JUST MEASURE PRESSURE THESE SYSTEMS MEASURE INTERNAL TIRE TEMPERATURE AND HAVE OVER TEMPERATURE ALARMS. THIS IS A BIG ADVANTAGE ON VEHICLES THAT ARE STORED FOR LONG PERIODS WHERE A BRAKE CALIPER CAN STICK AFTER THE FIRST BRAKE APPLICATION AND CAUSE A DRAGGING BRAKE SITUATION AND ALSO HELP IN OVERHEATING WHEEL BEARING SITUATIONS.

5 BASIC SET UP PROCEDURES

(1) SET VEHICLE TIRE PRESSURES.  (2) SET PRESSURE ON MONITOR  (PRESSURE SETTING MODE) TO MATCH EACH WHEEL ON VEHICLE.  (3) GO INTO ALIGNMENT MODE AND INSTALL SENSORS ONE AT A TIME (STARTING LEFT FRONT).  (4) GET OUT OF ALIGNMENT MODE AND YOU ARE UP AND RUNNING

6 ALIGNMENT ISSUES

ALIGNMENT ISSUES CAN BE CAUSED BY INCORRECTLY SIZED, OR BENT VALVE ACTUATORS OR VALVES TORQUED TOO TIGHT OR TOO LOOSE IN THE TIRE VALVE STEM AND NOT ALLOWING THE SENSOR TO OPERATE. ANY ISSUES ALIGNING SENSORS ON TIRE VALVE EXTENDERS SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY TESTING THE SENSOR ON A TIRE VALVE WITH NO EXTENDER.

7 I HAVE AN ALARM, WHAT SHOULD I DO

FIRSTLY PULL OVER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DETERMINE WHICH WHEEL HAS AN ALARM, BY CHECKING THE MONITOR ICONS, DETERMINE WHAT TYPE OF ALARM YOU HAVE. IT COULD BE A LEAKING TIRE,  A TIRE THAT HAS OVER PRESSURE AND TOO MUCH AIR IN IT RELATED TO YOUR BASE PRESSURE SETTING, THIS CAN HAPPEN AFTER A LONG RUN ON A HOT DAY, IT COULD BE AN OVERHEATING SITUATION ETC. BY CHECKING THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENT MONITOR ICONS THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH EACH CONDITION, A FLASHING RED LIGHT MAY OR MAY NOT MEAN YOU HAVE A  DEFLATION, EACH ALARM ICON TELLS YOU WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. YOU WILL  NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE ALARM WILL STOP

8 I SET UP THE SYSTEM AND NOW I NEED TO MAKE CHANGES

IF YOU SET UP THE SYSTEM FOR A PARTICULAR WHEEL CONFIGURATION AND NOW YOU WANT TO ADD EXTRA SENSORS OR CHANGE THINGS AROUND YOU SHOULD DELETE THE EXISTING SENSORS AS PER THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (SEE 2)  AND START FROM SCRATCH, THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO DETERMINE PRESSURES AND SENSOR POSITIONS ETC. MONITOR PRESSURE CHANGES CAN BE MADE IN THE PRESSURE SETTING MODE IF NEEDED

9 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DISCONNECT A TRAILER OR TOAD

WHEN A TRAILER IS DROPPED THE MONITOR WILL STILL SHOW TRAILER INFORMATION ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT MONITORED, ANY SENSORS ON THE TOW VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED AS USUAL, WHEN THE TRAILER IS RECONNECTED THE SYSTEM WILL AGAIN REPORT THE CURRENT TRAILER INFORMATION. TO TEST SENSORS IN RANGE UNSCREW AND THEN TIGHTEN THEM TO TEST THE FAST LEAKAGE ALARM

10 WHAT IS THE SLEEP SYSTEM

OFTEN A MISCONCEPTION IF YOU READ INTERNET CHAT LINES . IF THE MONITOR IS MOTIONLESS FOR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES (VEHICLE STATIONARY) IT WILL SHUT DOWN TO SAVE THE BATTERY. WHEN IT DETECTS MOTION AGAIN IT WILL BEEP AND THE SCREEN WILL FLASH SIGNIFYING IT HAS COME OUT OF SLEEP MODE. IF THE MONITOR IS SHUT OFF OVERNIGHT, SIMPLY SWITCH THE MONITOR BACK ON PRIOR TO YOUR DEPARTURE AND YOUR REAL TIME TIRE PRESSURES AND TEMPERATURES WILL BE UPDATED WITHIN 5 TO  15 MINUTES ON THE MONITOR. EVEN IF YOUR MONITOR IS IN THE SLEEP MODE THE SYSTEM IS ALWAYS MONITORING YOUR TIRES AND WILL ALARM SHOULD ANY PRESSURE OR TEMPERATURE BECOME OUT OF YOUR SET PARAMETERS

11 ECO-SENSOR AND BATTERIES

EVENTUALLY ALL BATTERIES LOSE POWER OR DIE. THE HAWKSHEAD ECO-SENSOR HAS REPLACEABLE BATTERIES THAT CAN BE EASILY REPLACED WHENEVER NEEDED. THE BATTERY IN THE HD, PTSD 4 & PRESSURE TRACK 4  ARE CR1632 WATCH TYPE BATTERIES AVAILABLE FROM JEWELRY STORES OR HAWKSHEAD SYSTEMS. IF YOU HAVE A NOSIGNAL DISPLAYED ON THE MONITOR AS WELL AS A SENSOR BATTERY WARNING, THIS WARNING CAN BE IGNORED AS IT IS MOST LIKELY BEING CAUSED BY THE MONITOR BEING TAKEN OUT OF RANGE. IF THIS IS THE CASE UNSCREW AND TIGHTEN THE SENSOR TO RESET. ANOTHER METHOD IS TO REALIGN THE SENSOR.

12 TESTING THE SYSTEM

THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE FREQUENTLY TESTED FOR FAST LEAK OPERATION. THE MONITOR SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE DRIVERS LOCATION AND SENSORS UNSCREWED THEN TIGHTENED ONE AT A TIME.  THE FAST LEAK ALARM SHOULD OPERATE AND THEN RESET ON THE MONITOR.

13 DO I NEED SPECIAL TOOLS TO INSTALL THE SENSORS ?

NO SPECIAL TOOLS NEEDED 

14 CAN I SET DIFFERENT PRESSURES FOR EACH WHEEL?

WHEELS CAN BE SET TO A DIFFERENT PRESSURE, FOR TOW & TOWED VEHICLES

15  NO SIGNAL ALARM WHEN THE MONITOR IS TAKEN MILES AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE

THE NO SIGNAL ALARM IS CONFIGURED TO OPERATE ONLY WHEN THE MONITOR IS IN RANGE OF THE SENSORS, SLEEP MODE ALSO SHUTS OFF NO SIGNAL ALARM

16 HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERIES LAST IN THE BATTERY BOOSTER ?

THE BATTERIES IN THE BATTERY BOOSTER WILL LAST ABOUT 6 MONTHS 4Hrs PER DAY THE MONITOR WILL DISPLAY A LOW BOOSTER BATTERY WARNING

17 WHAT CAN CAUSE A NO SIGNAL WARNING

THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY TOO MUCH DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SENSORS AND MONITOR (30FT OR MORE) OVERHANGING BODY WORK. THE USE OF A BOOSTER OR THE REPOSITIONING OF A BOOSTER CAN HELP. INTERFERENCE FROM SURROUNDING RADIO FREQUENCIES. LOW SENSOR BATTERIES, POOR BATTERY CONNECTION, INCORRECTLY INSTALLED BATTERY, DEFECTIVE SENSOR, TRY SWITCHING THE MONITOR ON OR OFF, RESET THE SENSOR BY UNSCREWING THEN TIGHTENING. TEST THE SENSOR BY FIRSTLY DELETING IT. THEN DELETE A KNOWN WORKING SENSOR AND REINSTALL  IT IN THE NO SIGNAL LOCATION. IF THE REPLACEMENT WORKING SENSOR STILL SHOWS NO SIGNAL IN THIS LOCATION IT WOULD SUGGEST A RECEPTION PROBLEM (DISTANCE/BATERRY ETC).  IF THE REPLACEMENT WORKING SENSOR WORKS FINE IN THE NO SIGNAL LOCATION  IT  WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE PREVIOUS NO SIGNAL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE OR LOW BATTERY.  IT WOULD ALSO SUGGEST THAT THE ORIGINAL NO SIGNAL SENSOR NOW LOCATED IN A PREVIOUSLY GOOD WORKING LOCATION WOULD ALSO HAVE ISSUES IF IT WERE DEFECTIVE  OR HAD A LOW BATTERY. SWITCHING THE MONITOR OFF ON RVs PARKED OVERNIGHT WILL ALSO STOP THE MONITOR  FROM RESTARTING DUE TO ITS MOTION ACTIVATION AND STOP IT FROM SEEKING SENSORS.  KEEP THE MONITOR IN RANGE OF THE SENSORS FOR OPTIMUM OPERATION.  TESTING SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE VEHICLE IN MOTION.

18 CAN I USE TIRE VALVE EXTENSIONS

MOST TIRE VALVE EXTENDERS WORK OK, HOWEVER IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SENSORS MOUNTED ON EXTENDERS, TEST THE SENSOR ON A REGULAR VALVE STEM LOCATION TO SEE IF IT IS A SENSOR PROBLEM OR AN EXTENDER PROBLEM

19 OVER TEMPERATURE ALARMS WHAT CAN CAUSE THEM

 OVER TEMPERATURE CAN BE CAUSED BY DRAGGING BRAKES, OVERLOADED VEHICLE, INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE, THE SUN SHINING ON TIRES, THE CHROME WHEEL TRIM MAGNIFYING THE SUN ONTO THE SENSOR BODY 

20 DO I NEED METAL TIRE VALVES

WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU USE TIRE VALVES THAT ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION EITHER METAL OR RUBBER. METAL ARE PREFFERED. IF USING RUBBER WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU MAKE SURE THE VALVE HAS NO VISIBLE CRACKS OR DAMAGE. VALVES SHOULD BE CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS  

21 USING AN INFRARED THERMOMETER

THE SENSOR MEASURES INTERNAL AIR TEMPERATURE, THE INFRA RED GUN MEASURES EXTERNAL TREAD AND CASE TEMPERATURES WHICH CAN VARY DEPENDING ON TARGET OF THE GUN, CASTER/CAMBER AND MANY OTHER FACTORS

22 SYSTEM ACCURACY

OUR SENSORS ARE VERY ACCURATE AND ANY GAUGE READINGS SHOULD BE MADE AFTER RESETTING THE SENSORS. MEASUREMENTS OF 1PSI NEED A CONTROLLED LABORATORY TYPE SYSTEM TO BE ACCURATE.  THE PRESSURES AND TEMPERATURES CAN VARY DRAMATICALLY FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL DEPENDING ON MANY FACTORS, SUCH AS SUN SHINING ON ONE SIDE, VEHICLE LOAD, CASTOR/ CAMBER/ALIGNMENT/BRAKE TEMPS. EVEN RACE CARS TURNING LEFT ALL THE TIME GENERATE HIGHER PRESSURES AND TEMPS ON ONE SIDE. TIRE GAUGE ACCURACY CAN VARY WILDLY AND THEIR QUALITY IS NOT DEPENDENT ON THEIR COST. TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION IS A REQUIREMENT IN A GOOD GAUGE. (GAUGES THAT READ THE SAME AT -40 & 110 DEGREES) SLIDE TYPE GAUGES THAT RELY ON FRICTION ARE OFTEN INACCURATE  

23 HOW MUCH AIR DO I PUT IN THE TIRES ?

ALWAYS SET THE MONITOR PRESSURE TO THE SAME AS THE COLD INFLATION PRESSURE. AS AN EXAMPLE SOME PEOPLE SET THE MONITOR AT 100 PSI AND THEN PUT 105 PSI IN THE TIRE FOR GOOD LUCK :)  BY DOING THIS THE CHANCE OF OVER PRESSURE ALARMS IS INCREASED.

24 ALARMS WHEN I STOP FOR A WHILE

IN EXTREME CASES IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET A SLOW LEAK ALARM AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PUSHED HARD, OVERLOADED ETC ETC AND THE TIRE PRESSURE HAS DRAMATICALLY INCREASED AND UPON STOPPING THE TIRE COOLS QUICKLY AND THE PRESSURE DROPS SIMULATING SEMI RAPID AIR LOSS. THIS RAPID EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION IS NOT GOOD FOR TIRES. THIS SITUATION IS OFTEN CAUSED BY HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE AIR IN THE TIRE. WE RECOMMEND SWITCHING TO NITROGEN IN THESE SITUATIONS.

25 TURNING THE MONITOR OFF

NOT SURE HOW TO TURN OFF THE MONITOR. 1 IF YOU HAVE A (NON FLASHING) GREEN LIGHT OR RED LIGHT SHOWING YOU ARE IN ALIGNMENT MODE. YOU NEED TO FIRST GET OUT OF THIS MODE BY HOLDING DOWN THE TWO OUTSIDE BUTTONS UNTIL IT BEEPS.  2. HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE BUTTON FOR 8 SECONDS AND IGNORE ANY BEEPS OR SCREEN CHANGES AS YOU PASS THROUGH THE PRESSURE SETTING MODE UNTIL THE UNIT TOTALLY SHUTS OFF. IF THE MONITOR DOES NOT SHUT OFF THE FIRST TIME YOU MAY BE IN PRESSURE SETTING MODE REPEAT HOLDING DOWN THE MIDDLE BUTTON FOR 8 SECONDS IGNORING ANY BEEPS OR SCREEN CHANGES UNTIL IT COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF.

26 TESTING THE SYSTEM FAST ALARM

TO TEST THE FAST LEAK OPERATION WHEN CONNECTING A TRAILER OR SINGLE VEHICLE USE LOCATE THE MONITOR IN THE DRIVERS CAB AND UNSCREW THE FURTHEST SENSOR. THE FAST ALARM SHOULD GO OFF AND THEN RESET WHEN THE SENSOR IS RE TIGHTENED

27 WHAT IS THE BASE SYSTEM FOR THE HD & HD PLUS

THE HD & HD PLUS BASE SYSTEMS COMES WITH ALL COMPONENTS SUITABLE TO MONITOR 4 WHEELS AND INCLUDES MONITOR, HOLDER, SENSORS, BATTERIES, CABLES LOCKS INSTRUCTIONS ETC  EXTRA SENSORS CAN BE ADDED (TOTAL 22)

28 HOW ARE THE HD & HD PLUS & PRESSURE TRACK 4 MONITORS POWERED?

MONITORS ARE POWERED BY AN INTERNAL RECHARGEABLE BATTERY AND A CIGAR LIGHTER VOLTAGE REDUCER CORD. THIS MEANS YOU CAN TAKE THE MONITOR IN YOUR HAND AROUND YOUR VEHICLE FOR SENSOR SETUP AND TIRE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT, IT IS LIKE HAVING AN ELECTRONIC TIRE GAUGE

32. WINTER STORAGE

IT’S A GOOD IDEA TO REMOVE THE SENSORS AND MONITOR FROM YOUR VEHICLE IF PARKED FOR AN EXTENDED TIME, ESPECIALLY IN COLD WEATHER. STORE IN A WARM LOCATION. MARK EACH SENSORS WHEEL POSITION OR STORE THEM IN AN EGG CARTON SO THEY CAN BE REPLACED IN THE SAME WHEEL POSITION TO AVOID HAVING TO DO A NEW SET UP.

IF USED THE BATTERIES IN THE BATTERY BOOSTER SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 4 MONTHS UNDER REGULAR USE. IF LEFT TO DRAIN WITHOUT REPLACEMENT THE MONITOR WILL SHOW 0-0 WITH A FLASHING BATTERY ICON. REPLACE BOOSTER BATTERIES AND RE ALIGN SENSORS TO REMOVE THIS WARNING FROM THE MONITOR
